Is It Okay for Me to Walk into a Gym, for the First Time?

If you're over 50 and you've been quietly asking yourself, is it okay for me to be walking into a gym? Is it okay that I don't know what I'm doing?

Yes. And you are not alone. Not even a little bit.

So many women think they're the anomaly. That everyone else in the room has been training for years and they're the only one who's never done this before. The reality? So many women in peri and menopause have never formally exercised in their lives. Maybe you played a bit of sport. Maybe you went to the gym for about 15 minutes once. But actually spending time training yourself? That just wasn't the thing 10, 20, 30 years ago.

We were sold fads, not a plan

Let's be honest about what we were given instead. Fad diets. Weird exercise equipment. Does anyone else remember that humping horse exercise thing? Or the ab rocker, sold to us by people with rock-hard abs who very obviously got them doing other forms of training?

Nothing like a bit of Danoz Direct to confuse us into thinking these fads were the thing that was going to work.

I remember a whole house full of fads. My parents are well into their 70s now, and for years we were sold idea after idea that never lasted beyond a 12-week program.

So we jumped. From one thing to the next thing to the next thing to the next thing to the next thing. And that's exactly why so many women over 50 have never known what to do. It's not that you failed. You were never given anything that was built to last.

What we do at Fearless Females

We create consistency.

We work in 12-week blocks. Each block has a start and an end, but that end isn't the end of you working out. It's an ellipsis... a continuation. It's where you get to say, "Okay, this is the thing I've achieved." And then, "Now what's the next thing I get to achieve?"

We celebrate the breadcrumbs

We celebrate every success, especially the ones we call the breadcrumbs.

The woman who couldn't balance six weeks ago, and is now walking downstairs without holding on to the rail.

The woman who couldn't shoulder press 3 kilos ten weeks ago, and is now pressing 8.

That's what we're here for. Weight loss? That's the byproduct of doing these amazing things, not the point of them.

Women genuinely supporting women

And then there's the community. This is a room where women genuinely support other women. Where a woman will literally turn to the person next to her and say, "I think you can go heavier than that."

Not because she's shading her. Not because she's being awful. But because she genuinely believes the woman next to her is more capable than she thinks she is.

How cool is that?

So, is it okay?

It's more than okay. You don't need to know what you're doing before you walk in. That's literally our job. You just need to turn up, and we'll take it from there, one breadcrumb at a time.

Feeling called?

If you read this and thought, that's me, then consider this your sign. Submit an inquiry form below and let's have a chat about where you're at and what your first 12 weeks could look like.

No judgement. No fads. And absolutely no ab rocker.
